| Geoff graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1974 with the degrees of Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws. In 1975 he was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria. In 1992 he was admitted as Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors having graduated with a Diploma from the Company Directors’ Course at the University of New England. Geoff was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Company Secretaries in Australia in 1994 by examination with Distinction.
For the ten years to 1999, Geoff was the Finance Director and Company Secretary of Skilled Engineering Limited. During his time at Skilled, annual sales grew from less than $100 million to more than $600 million. Geoff managed the public flotation and ASX listing of Skilled, instigated systems and management, and undertook all funding, company secretarial, compliance, legal and investor relations issues. He was also instrumental in the negotiation of several acquisitions.
Other stepping-stones in Geoff’s career include portfolio management for a venture capital fund, finance and legal management within the aluminium industry, as well as mainstream legal practice. He has served as a Director or Chairman on company boards in a diverse range of industries from plant genetic engineering, to electronic commerce, to road maintenance. Geoff has had broad international business experience, particularly within Asia.
Since establishing Corporate Business Brokers in partnership with Des Carroll, Geoff has been immersed in the areas of heavy engineering, internet, defence, manufacturing, imports, wholesale distribution, major retail, building construction, publishing, and services.
Geoff’s main strengths are his considerable depth of experience in a wide range of industries, his negotiation skills, and his wide education, knowledge and understanding in broad business disciplines.
