| After flying Caribou aircraft for the Australian Air Force in Vietnam Martin moved to the United States where he completed his MBA at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) with a focus on financial planning, analysis and reporting. From 1975 Martin gained experience from seasoned experts at Merck & Co in large financial projects, mergers and acquisitions. In 1980 Martin moved from the international scene to medium sized businesses. He analysed and reported the financial performance of AZL Resources in Phoenix. This conglomerate was an aggressive vehicle for the acquisition of ski resorts, farm equipment and oil reclamations.
From 1982 Martin moved to smaller businesses. He consulted with a franchise office of VR Business Brokers in Phoenix, Arizona and later instructed business brokers at three real estate firms. On weekends, Martin organised running events as president of the Arizona Road Runners, a 2,000 plus member running club. He also developed a passion for legal reform.
Returning to Australia in 1990, Martin briefly lectured in finance at Dandenong TAFE and renewed his interests in flying. He was chief ground instructor at Deniliquin in 1991. He organised reunions for old school friends and acted as treasurer for the RAAF Vietnam Veteran's Association. The reunion activities evolved into a consultancy. By 1998 he was conducting over 100 reunions a year and managed the ex-students associations of some 20 active and closed public high schools. In 2000, after a lifetime of distance running (including the Boston Marathon), Martin became attracted to Sports Management. In 2002 he accepted the position of CEO of Table Tennis Victoria but then sacrificed his new career in 2004 to help a friend and other creditors in the liquidation of a business. From 2002 to 2008 he gained valuable experience in insolvency law and family business structures. In 2008 Martin returned to business brokerage with Corporate Business Brokers. He offers clients professionalism, creativity and reality. He is a firm believer that luck is where preparation meets opportunity |
